It’s been exactly fifty years since England lifted the World Cup at Wembley, and in Nottingham we are celebrating past glories…
Last week we paraded the Jules Rimet trophy in Nottingham city centre as part of our massive summer of football, with young Jonjo Heuerman bringing the trophy himself after raising £235,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund.
Now, we have an even greater reminder of England’s historical triumph in the form of a live screening event this Saturday at the Broadway Cinema fifty years to the day since Bobby Moore lifted the World Cup.
Live streaming from Wembley will include not only a full re-run of the entertaining 4-2 victory over West Germany, but also views, comments and performances organized by the BBC, with presenters and special guests reminiscing through music from the sixties era.
You can win tickets by telling us your vivid memories of this once in a lifetime occasion (if you were lucky enough to witness it) or by letting us know how your parents celebrated England’s fantastic achievement.
Nottingham-based magazine LeftLion will be interviewing members of the public at the event, to capture a wide-range of the most memorable moments from 1966.
For some it will be hard to believe that Saturday 30 July is now fifty years in the past, with colourful snapshots already emerging of the magical day that Moore held the trophy aloft.
By re-living this one beautiful moment in the comfort of Broadway Cinema you have the chance to let your recollections become reality once more or even experience the emotions of the English people that day for the first time.
For many of us it may be the only time we see an Englishman stand on top of the world of football.
